Welcoming back fashion’s normality of runways and live audiences, Friday saw the kickstart of the Big Apple’s February 2022 Fashion Week. 11 Honoré

FROW favourite, 11 Honoré debuted their Spring 2022 11 Honoré Collection on the NYFW runway, and let’s just say it met all of our high expectations! Championing plus size representation in fashion, with beauty looks from Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and TRESemmé, designer Danielle Williams-Eke showcased her second collection for the brand for the upcoming brighter season. Capturing on-trend styling and approachable price points, this season Eke incorporated prints and bright colours throughout the collection – with soft, subtle pinks and tangy tangerines. The brand also partnered with Afterpay to allow shoppers across the U.S. to sit on the front row, all from the comfort of their own home, with the opportunity to purchase items directly from the runway.

Tiffany Brown

Opening Day 2, designer Tiffany Brown presented her Fall/Winter ’22 collection at an intimate runway show to an in-person audience of guests witnessing designs of classic evening wear. The womenswear line featured luxurious evening dresses with drapes and pleats to tailored power-suits – and even vegan-leather pants. The menswear range took the route of fine head-to-toe tailoring, flowy pea coats and sleeveless ponchos. The collection, named ‘Brown’, showcased melanin-inspired pieces on a diverse array of models; with the shade often being associated with resilience, dependability, security and safety. The morning saw showstopping garments including strappy, cinched, cut-out dresses, sheer bodysuits and nods to faux fur – with the added incorporation of rich tones for opulence.

Kevan Hall

Reintroducing Kevan Hall‘s second collection since his 20-year hiatus, 2022’s ‘Trading Post!’ for Fall/Winter. Envisioning a time when travellers would meet to exchange folklore and handcrafted textiles, Hall uses regional fabrics with accents of blackened gold and copper to reimagine the opulent era of beauty and trade. The womenswear collection features textured prints inspired by Northern Africa in the form of timeless and signature pieces. Continuing the journey through history, the runway showcased elegantly abstract floral day dresses, sharp tailored pieces constructed from lightweight materials and completed with the designer’s signature eveningwear ensembles – crafted with metallic florals and heavy draping.

Custo Barcelona

Returning to the city that never sleeps, Custo Barcelona touched down on the U.S. runway after two years due to the pandemic. With a collection that represents the idea of shining again from within, to radiate light and illuminate your world, Custo played with shapes and patterns for their take on streetwear-inspired pieces. Dominating core elements of the range were the dresses with creative cut-outs, micro-mini shorts and skirts – sporting shiny velvet jacquard, multi-coloured sequins and vibrant satins. More relaxed pieces include micro jumpsuits and long sweatshirt dresses – let’s not forget outerwear in the form of straight-cut maxi coats and quilted glitter micro jackets!

Sabine Arias

Walking the runway for the very first time, Sabine Arias is set to debut her AW22 collection “Eternal Love – Great Gatsby”. Known for its sleek, statement gowns and inspired by the unpretentious style of Rio, Sabine Arias has gained an avid following since the launch of her brand in 2020. Supported by ABEST (Brazilian Association of Fashion Designers), Arias will showcase her collection on 1st March, featuring the designer’s carioca roots and romantic influence, through contemporary timeless garments – and feminine essentials.

CHAANCE

Saturday evening saw the digital premiere of streetwear brand, CHAANCE‘s Fall/Winter ’22 collection which channelled ’90s Hip Hop with dancers, models and BMX bikers. Hitting the streets in conceptual and transformative athleticwear, this second season brought together dynamic models to represent its unisex line – from biker shorts to sweatshirts. The collection named ‘Light The Fire Within’, symbolises igniting hope during trying times whilst promoting signs of triumph at the Winter Olympics – through bold colours, graphics and the best materials for freedom of movement. Highlights from the line included camouflage print hooded puffer coats, ’90s wide-leg athletic pants, and wide-collared shirts.

Sergio Hudson

Renowned designer Sergio Hudson stepped into Spring this week as he promoted his SS22 Ready-to-Wear collection. Filled with a focus on animal prints, monochromatic moments and elevated levels of tailoring, Hudson’s garments were dressed with daring cut-outs – promoting the unapologetic fearlessness of the Sergio Hudson brand. Hints of leather came in the form of constructed co-ords and midi dresses, with a final emphasis on accessorising with chunky belts.

Proenza Schouler

Kickstarting the annual event, the designer duo behind Proenza Schouler used this collection to question where they will take their brand in the future. With comfort at the forefront of this season, the brand crafted a line of cosy tailoring, through seamless corset silhouettes. The result? Loose-fitted suits cinched at the waist, shirt maxi dresses with exaggerated sleeves and coats seen with extravagant fur collars. Despite the collection remaining mostly within a neutral-toned colour palette, the audience did see flashes of vibrancy, glitter and animal printing.
