Games often go through a cycle where they gather a large interest due to streamers playing together live on Twitch or YouTube. We've seen it before with Among Us back in 2020 and again more recently with Lethal Company so, there's no doubt that Content Warning will be no different.

Released on the 1st of April, Landfall dropped something special for their community as they have every April Fool's day for the past 8 years; a longstanding tradition coined as Landfall Day, that for this year has brought us the new content sensation Content Warning. A co-op survival horror gag game adopting aspects of other massive games like Lethal Company and Phasmophobia but with a fresh twist. You and your friends start in a picturesque, cutesy world where you can customize your character with ASCII characters, buy things like flashlights and upgrade your equipment in the shop all before descending into “The Old World”- a spooky land filled with all kinds of monsters and contraptions lurking in the darkness. The aim of the game is to film something scary which isn’t hard once you get exploring - what is hard though is trying to survive the trip back! Once your spooky vlog has been recorded you need to get back home so you can upload it to “SpöökTube” and watch as the views roll in.

The game hasn't had the best start when it comes to bugs (and not the scary ones in the game) with many people finding it hard to even play for the first couple days of release. This isn't surprising given the development of the game only started in February of this year and they have been working hard to get all these fixed but with such a small team and mass demand, this can be difficult to keep up with. Regardless, this fun game isn’t something to take so seriously when playing, it is like a Jackass-esque game with silly characters and the players have full control over how the vlog turns out. A really cool feature is how you can save these vlogs directly to your computer so you don’t lose them after.

Landfall created a game, whether intentional or not, that is pastiche full of parodies. The fun little game pokes fun at modern societal standards, how crazy people can get trying to go viral, even risking their lives for it, but why not try it in-game within the safety of your own home.

Unfortunately, the date to get this game for free has now passed but you can still pick it up for £6.96 on Steam and go get famous or die trying!
